Capital One
Enterprise Payments Platform
Making enterprise payment services easier to build on.
My role
Product discovery, requirements definition, stakeholder alignment, and roadmap planning.
Focus
API products, REST APIs, platform roadmaps, requirements, and agile delivery.
Overview
At Capital One, I partner with engineering, architecture, and cross-functional stakeholders to define enterprise payment capabilities that improve how internal products consume payment services.
The challenge
Enterprise payment systems support numerous downstream consumers with evolving requirements, multiple integration patterns, and strict governance requirements. Teams needed clear API definitions, standardized requirements, a scalable integration strategy, engineering alignment, and improved technical documentation.
What I led
Product discovery
Worked with engineering and stakeholders to understand platform limitations and prioritize payment capabilities.
API product definition
Created functional requirements for REST APIs, documenting business rules, payloads, and integration workflows.
Cross-functional alignment
Facilitated collaboration across architecture, engineering, and business teams to align implementation with customer needs.
Platform strategy
Helped define future-state platform capabilities that improve scalability, maintainability, and long-term adoption.
Lesson learned
Building platform products requires balancing technical architecture with customer outcomes.
The biggest unlock is reducing ambiguity early, before engineering assumptions harden into delivery risk.
